External and Internal zones in Firewall:

A firewall is meant to separate external and internal networks. External zones mostly refer to public networks and the internal network represents the internal organizational network (eg: LAN networks).

firewall works on the packet filtering method. Packets which are left inside the network after filtering are called internal zone packets which are blocked or rejected is called the external zone
